WASHINGTONVILLE — Both offenses found the end zone all night. Only one of them protected the football, and that was the difference as Washingtonville held off Pine Bush 42-28 on Friday for its most productive offensive night of the season.
Brennan Tesseyman ran the show for the Wizards. The quarterback completed better than 78 percent of his passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns, then added 64 yards and two more scores on just seven carries — four touchdowns accounted for on his own.
Bryce Tesseyman was his favorite target, piling up 135 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Pine Bush had no trouble moving the ball either. Quarterback Connor Amiel threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns, and Noah Schorling had the best receiving night of his career, hauling in 175 yards and three of those scores.
What separated the teams was the giveaways. Amiel was intercepted three times, and each one cost Pine Bush a possession in a game where nearly every drive seemed to end in points.
The 42 points were the most Washingtonville has scored this season, and Tesseyman’s 234 passing yards were a season high for him as well.
The Wizards move to 3-1. Their season has swung between extremes — a 34-16 win at Our Lady of Lourdes, a 17-14 escape at Monroe-Woodbury, a 48-12 loss at Newburgh Free Academy, and now this — leaving them with 105 points scored and 106 allowed through four games.
Pine Bush falls to 1-3. The Bushmen have now dropped six straight road games dating back to last season, a streak that has followed them into this fall despite an offense that put up 28 points and 239 passing yards on Friday night.
Both teams are back out on Friday, Oct. 2. Washingtonville travels to Goshen Central for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Pine Bush hosts Middletown at 6 p.m. in its first conference game of the season.
Washingtonville opens league play later in the month, hosting Minisink Valley on Friday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m., before a trip to Warwick on Oct. 23 and a home date with Roosevelt on Oct. 30.
