MIDDLETOWN — Newburgh is still perfect. The Goldbacks scored five unanswered goals at Middletown High School on Wednesday afternoon and walked off with a 5-0 win on a chilly, clear afternoon that had the sideline reaching for sweatshirts.
Justin Saravia did most of the damage, finishing with three goals. Piero Altamirano added a goal and an assist, and Ian Enamorado Garcia scored as well. Kevin Meza and Santiago Bastidas-Brecht picked up the other assists.
Newburgh’s back line was composed all afternoon. The group is loaded with seniors, and it showed in how rarely the Middies got a clean look. What did get through was handled by the two keepers: Giovani Sanchez made one save and Ryan Salony made two as Newburgh split the shutout between them.
The win keeps Newburgh unbeaten at 5-0 and stretches its winning streak to five. The Goldbacks came in off a 7-2 win over Valley Central on Saturday. Middletown, which had beaten Burke Catholic 7-1 on Monday, falls to 4-2.
Both teams are back on the field later this week.
