CORNWALL — Thirteen shots on goal. Two of them counted. That was enough.
Cornwall beat Minisink Valley 2-0 at home Wednesday, a regular-season result that carried the Dragons into Section 9 play, and for most of the afternoon they were the only team asking questions.
Kalli Enos scored one. Cacia Quinonez scored the other. Victoria Weber and Kathryn Breheny were credited with the assists.
The shot count says where this game was played. Thirteen on frame is a long afternoon for any goalkeeper, and Minisink Valley spent most of it defending its own end.
What the number does not say is how little Cornwall gave up going the other way. With a place in sectionals riding on the result, the Dragons never blinked: no lapse, no scramble, nothing that let the Warriors back into a match that was getting away from them.
Now it gets harder, and it gets away from home. The third-seeded Dragons travel to No. 2 Washingtonville on Wednesday, Oct. 28, for a 4 p.m. semifinal, with a place in the Section 9 final waiting for whoever comes out of it.
Two more wins and the Dragons are section champions. The first one is a week out, on somebody else’s field, against a team seeded above them.
